Potting of Current Transformer

This video shows an encapsulation technician potting a current transformer which is mounted in a potting cup with epoxy resin compound. We are manufacturing this 1,000:1 current transformer for a client who will use them for monitoring current in a control application. The current carrying cable monitored can be as big as 1″ in diameter. We first wind 1000 turns on the core, then place the wound coil in a potting cup and attach #20 AWG UL-1015 lead wires that are 24″ long. Next we encapsulate the unit with epoxy resin. Once the epoxy compound hardens, we clean, label and ship the part.
